Wesleyan upsets Cal; D&E, A-B tally wins

BUCKHANNON?- Kristen Hoo's goal in double overtime lifted West Virginia Wesleyan to a 1-0 upset win over No. 4 regionally ranked California (Pa.) on Wednesday.

Hoo knocked in the game-winner off a breakaway at the 109:57 mark of the second overtime.

The Lady Vulcans (2-1), who suffered their first loss of the season, held an 11-7 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Lauren Duncan had five saves in net for Wesleyan.

The Lady Bobcats will entertain Concord for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday.

D&E 4, Charleston 0

CHARLESTON?- Davis & Elkins remained perfect on the season after blanking Charleston 4-0 Wednesday in both teams' West Virginia Conference opener.

The Lady Senators, who improved to 3-0 with the win, received a hat trick in the contest from senior forward Sarah Fyock.

Fyock scored a pair of goals in the first half and Taylor Morton added a score as D&E built a 3-0 advantage at intermission.

Fyock iced the win with her third and final goal at the 60:10 mark of the second half.

Maggie Fry, Vicky Gustitis and Morton all had assists for the Lady Senators.

Ashley Winkelspecht had nine saves in goal for D&E. Taylor Fealy played the final 5:59 of regulation and had three stops.

The Lady Senators will entertain Ashland University for their home opener Saturday at noon.

Alderson-Broaddus 1,

Wheeling Jesuit 0

PHILIPPI?- Megan Johnson's goal with one minute remaining in regulation lifted Alderson-Broaddus to a 1-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit Wednesday.

Johnson took a corner kick from teammate Gwen Brand and headed in a shot past Wheeling Jesuit goalie Holl Kraus for the game winner.

Kraus had stopped all six Lady Battler shots up to that point.

Kate Laird had one save in goal for A-B.

The Lady Battlers will entertain IUP Saturday.
