Elkins sweeps Lewis County

Hailea Harper had two goals to lead Elkins past Lewis County 4-1 Thursday in Big 10 Conference action at EHS.

Grace Lindsay and Isabella Nieves added goals for the Lady Tigers (4-3), who outshot Lewis County 12-4 in the contest.

Charlie George had four saves in goal for Elkins.

"I thought we played very well," Elkins coach Scott Cutright said. "I thought we bounced back well after losing to Lincoln earlier this week. Charlie (George) really stepped up and played a good game in goal."

Elkins travels to Fairmont Senior Tuesday for another conference contest.

Boys Soccer

Elkins 3, Lewis County 1

Jacob Schoonover had two goals to power Elkins to a 3-1 win over Lewis County Thursday night in Big 10 Conference action at EHS.

Cameron Wilson scored the other goal for the Tigers (5-2-1).

Elkins outshot Lewis County 11-3 in the contest and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Tyler Gray had two saves in net for Elkins.

Chris Santalucia finished with eight stops for the Minutemen.

"Lewis County brought the game right to us in the first five minutes and put us on our heels quickly," Elkins coach Andy Montgomery said. "I'm very proud of how we overcame that poor start to come back with a victory.

"The second half we played in our offensive end and their goalkeeper made several great saves to keep the game close. Kollin Hopwood was a spark in the second half and Jacob Schoonover kept the pressure on their defense, but we made a determined team effort to get the win."

Elkins travels to Washington on Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest.

Lewis County 3, Elkins 0

Elkins dropped a 3-0 decision to Lewis County Thursday night in Big 10 Conference action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers (0-3) lost the match 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22.

Elkins also fell in the junior varsity contest 27-25, 17-25 and 15-25.

Elkins will visit Fairmont Senior Tuesday for a Big 10 Conference matchup.

Pendleton County 3,

Tygarts Valley 0

MILL CREEK - Tygarts Valley lost to Pendleton County in three games Thursday night in Potomac Valley Conference action.

The Lady Bulldogs (0-2) lost by the scores of 27-25, 25-22 and 25-22.

Shanda Howell had 11 kills, one ace serve and was Tygarts Valley's top setter in the match.

Rachel New also had six blocks for the Lady Bulldogs.

Tygarts Valley visits Moorefield on Tuesday.
