Stonewall plans dance weekend

September 8, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Ballroom and Latin dancing are set to take place at Stonewall Resort from Sept. 21 to 23, as part of a weekend that will include dance instruction, dances, accommodations, various resort activities, spa options and meals.

WV Dance Inc., based in Charleston, is hosting two dances that will allow dancers to enjoy a variety of ballroom, swing, salsa and Latin dances as well as dance instruction in various ballroom and Latin dances.

"This marks the fifth time that we have been at Stonewall for our dance weekends, and the members of the public who attend our weekends at Stonewall and the Greenbrier have told us how much they have enjoyed themselves," says Craig Giffin, instructor and President of WV Dance. "Our goal is to promote ballroom dancing and forms of dance associated with ballroom dancing throughout West Virginia for the benefit and enjoyment of all and we feel that these weekends help us to fulfill that goal."

WV Dance teaches a variety of dance styles.

"We cover the full spectrum of dancing from bolero, cha cha, foxtrot, hustle, mambo, merengue, nightclub two-step, polka, rumba, salsa, samba, East Coast swing, jitterbug, American tango and American waltz to West Coast swing, Argentine tango, quickstep, Viennese waltz and country two-step," Giffin said. "We even play some shag, per request, during our dances."

The September workshop weekend at Stonewall is open to beginning dancers, intermediate dancers and advanced students.

"While our workshops are geared toward beginning and intermediate dancers, the more advanced dancers who come have told us that they enjoy refining their technique during our workshops for beginning and intermediate dancers and enjoy dancing on Friday and Saturday nights at our dances," he said. "Beginning dancers often comment how much they enjoy the patience and thoroughness of our instruction."

The evening of Sept. 21 will feature beginner and intermediate salsa instruction, followed by a Friday dance. Saturday instruction will include beginning and intermediate nightclub two-step and West Coast swing lessons lessons as well as a Saturday evening dance.

The weekend agenda is posted at www.wvdance.net.

Guests can make reservations for the weekend by calling Stonewall Resort at 1-888-278-8150 or 304-269-7400. Stonewall Resort's website is www.stonewallresort.com.
