MSFF prep cross country race to be held today at D&E

The Elkins High School cross country team will host the Forest Festival Invitational today on the campus of Davis & Elkins College.

The boys varsity race will begin at 10:15 a.m., while the girls compettition is set to start at 11 a.m.

The junior varsity race, which will combined the boys and girls, is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.

The field will be made up 24 teams as Allegheny (Md.), Braxton County, Bridgeport, Buckhannon-Upshur, Cameron, Capital, East Fairmont, Gilmer County, Hampshire, Hedgesville, Jefferson, Lewis County, Liberty, Musselman, Paw Paw, Philip Barbour, Pikeview, Scott, South Harrison, Trinity, Tucker County, Washington and Webster will join Elkins in the race.

"We're happy to get the Forest Festival Invitational back this season," Elkins head coach Shellie Burda said. "It is a very tough field with some great competion. We have teams from all over the state, along with one team from Maryland coming in to compete."

Top invidual competitiors on the boys side include: Ryan Graf (Jefferson), Andrew Milliron (Jefferson), Austin Hamrick (Elkins), Will Shaffer (Scott), Jason Weitzel (Pikeview), Scott Nesland (Philip Barbour), Matt Wallace (Elkins) and Abe Merinar (Bridgeport).

Top girls competitors include: Brianna Waybright (Philip Barbour), Marissa Long (Philip Barboour), Morganne Phillips (Bridgeport) and Rachel Lipps (Hampshire).
