A joint dinner for the Buckhannon Post 7 of the American Legion and its ladies auxiliary was served Sept. 11 at the post home. Photographs of the 9/11 terrorist attacks were shown to commemorate the event.
Dr. Michael George was the guest speaker, dressing in period attire to describe the events as seen by Francis Scott Key as he wrote "The Star Spangled Banner" 200 years ago, also occurring on Sept. 11.
Post Department Commander Jack Gerrard was introduced and spoke briefly. Department historian Barry Hoage was also introduced.
The auxiliary members then retired to their meeting room, and the meeting was called to order by President Connie Bailey. The opening prayer was given by Chaplain Shirley Perry.
Delores Wilson spoke on the meaning of the words to the Pledge of Allegiance. Loretta Dawson showed the White Table Book, which describes the activities of the POW/MIA organizations. She intends to present a copy of the book to each school she visits. Peggy Shreve gave a report on the National Convention, which she attended.
A fall workshop will be held Sept. 22 at the Days Inn in Bridgeport for members who wish to attend. Bailey will be taking a purse filled with items to be auctioned off to benefit the Department Presidents Fundraiser Project.
After the closing prayer, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be Oct. 9.
