EHS girls fall at PS; D&E wins

PARKERSBURG - Parkersburg South defeated Elkins 3-0 Tuesday in non-conference action.

The Lady Patriots outshot the Lady Tigers 12-5 in the contest.

"We played well in the first half and the game was tied 0-0 at halftime," Elkins coach Scott Cutright said. "We made some mistakes in the second half and Parkersburg South took advantage of them."

Elkins (4-5-1) will travel to Preston Thursday for a Big 10 Conference matchup starting at 8 p.m.

B-U 6, East Fairmont 0

Jessica Feronti recorded a hat trick to lead Buckhannon-Upshur past East Fairmont 6-0 Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action at East-West Stadium.

Brooklyn Waddell added two goals, while Emily Godwin had one score for the Lady Bucs, who led 1-0 at halftime.

Godwin finished with two assists, while Taylor Starkey and Lindsey Beets added one apiece for Buckhannon-Upshur (11-1, 6-0 Big 10).

The Lady Bucs outshot the East Fairmont 20-1 in the contest and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Cheyann McQuain had 14 keeper saves in goal for East Fairmont.

Kelsey Hinzman had one stop for B-U.

"We pretty much controlled the entire game," Buckhannon-Upshur coach Tom Hasbrouck said. "To East Fairmont's credit, they came out and played a defensive minded game and frustrated us for most of the first half. But we made adjustments at halftime and took total control of the game."

Buckhannon-Upshur will entertain Preston Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest.

College Soccer

D&E 2, Lock Haven 0

PHILIPPI - Reining West Virginia Conference Player of the Week James Pucci scored two goals to lead Davis & Elkins past Lock Haven 2-0 Tuesday in non-conference action at Alderson-Broaddus College.

Darragh Vieyra added an assists for the Senators, who improved to 5-1 with the victory.

Davis & Elkins outshot Lock Haven 20-5 in the contest. Lock Haven held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Moises Oseguera had one keeper save in goal for the Senators. Chris Frederick had five stops for Lock Haven.

Davis & Elkins will travel to Shepherd on Saturday for a 3 p.m. WVIAC?matchup.

Prep Volleyball

B-U 3, East Fairmont 1

Buckhannon-Upshur's volleyball squad picked up a key Big 10 Conference road victory at East Fairmont Tuesday night.

The match took four games as the Lady Bucs had to battle back from an early deficit.

East Fairmont came out strong, taking game one 25-19. Buckhannon-Upshur responded by winning out with 25-18, 25-23 and 25-20 victories.

McKenzie Leigh led the offense with 13 kills and two blocks, while Sydney Bush contributed with 11 kills and four service aces.

Lindsey Wagoner produced team highs in assists (27) and digs (7). Leah Blend added nine kills and two blocks, while Cora McDaniels had five aces.

"East Fairmont stayed right in the game with us and was able to defend our offense well," Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Sheena Westfall said. "We were having trouble finishing tonight."

Buckhannon-Upshur improves to 10-1 and will travel to Clarksburg this weekend for the Robert C. Byrd Tournament.

College Golf

The West Virginia Wesleyan men's golf team placed 19th out of 20 teams in the Atlantic Region Invitational that concluded Tuesday in West Lafayette, Ohio at the River Greens Golf Course.

The Bobcats ended the two-day event with a team score of 503.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania won the competition with a score of 434.

Concord ended the tourney in the runner-up spot, carding a team score of 441 for the day.

Wesleyan is back on the links this weekend, playing in the West Virginia Conference Central Regional at Canaan Valley Resort.
