Bands ready to compete for festival

Bands from across the state will take to the field beginning at 4:45 p.m. Oct. 7 at Wimer Stadium in South Elkins for the Mountain State Forest Festival Spectacle of Bands field competition.

The Spectacle of Bands competition will showcase bands from across the state, and it will feature all kinds of different music themes. Bands are divided into divisions based on the number of members in each band.

The Mountain State Forest Festival Trumpeteers will begin the evening's activities with the National Anthem.

Harman School and Tygarts Valley High School bands will unite for an exhibition performance. The combined group is called "Red Storm."

Trophies will be awarded to top bands in all classes, with an overall field winner to be named. Trophies will be awarded in each class for Outstanding Drum Major, Outstanding Auxiliary Line and Outstanding Percussion Line. The highest award will be presented to the Grand Champion band, which is the band from any of the divisions with the highest parade score and highest field show score combined.

Organizers said sponsors for the Mountain State Forest Festival Spectacle of Bands are Gino's Pizza & Spaghetti House, Mountain Valley Bank N.A., Shop 'n Save Express, Wil-Ken Inc., Elkins Motorsports Inc. and Wendy's of Elkins.
