Minor court members eager to shine

The royal minor court of Queen Silvia LXXVI has been selected and announced by Mountain State Forest Festival Director General Mike Karlen and Queen's Department Director Lydia Wagner.

Representing the 76th royal court will be Crown Bearer Danica Jean-Louise Riggins; Scepter Bearer Lauren Elizabeth D'Angelo; flower girls Presley Shae Bates, Mackenzie Nicole Childers, Audrie Grace Dyer, Alexis Brooke Gibson, Hallie McKenna Martin and Jaden Faith Pratt; and train bearers Kaleb Bryce Kennard-Terry and Carter David-Andrew Loudin.

Five-year-old Riggins, daughter of Nick and Danielle Riggins of Elkins, is a kindergarten student at Midland Elementary School. She has one sister, Nadia. She is the granddaughter of Dave and Debbie Fincham of Beverly and Richard and Cindy Riggins of Terra Alta; and the great-granddaughter of David and Carol Ice and the late Jim and Martha Fincham. She is the great-great-granddaughter of Mary Ice.

The festival's crown bearer participates in Seneca Soccer fall league and is a member of the West Virginia Highland Dancers. She enjoys skiing, golfing and bike riding. Riggins attends First United Methodist Church and St. Brendan Catholic Church.

Six-year-old D'Angelo, daughter of Jacob and Allison D'Angelo of Elkins, is a first-grade student at Midland Elementary School. She has one brother, Lucas, and is the granddaughter of Ann and Bob Baird of Elkins, Sherry and Tom Hammer of Elkins and Steve and Jane D'Angelo of Parkersburg. Her grandmother, Jane D'Angelo, was Queen Silvia XXXVIII.

D'Angelo is a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church. She loves fishing, singing, dancing, reading and playing with her brother and her cousins.

Bates, 10, is an honor-roll student and member of the Elkins Little League Softball team and the Dance Factory. She enjoys dancing, swimming and gymnastics.

Bates is the daughter of Anthony and Krista Bates of Coalton. She has two sisters, Haley and Ella, and is the granddaughter of Nick and Mary Phillips of Coalton and Mike and Debbie Bates of Pine Grove. She is in fifth grade at Coalton Elementary School and attends Phillips Chapel Church.

Eight-year-old Childers is the daughter of Mike Childers and Gary and Melissa Wileman of Beverly. She has two sisters, Madison and Lynnlee Wileman, and one stepbrother, Coalton Childers. She is the granddaughter of Debbie Snyder, Richard and Anita Snyder, Cassandra Martin and Mike and Pam Childers. She is in third grade at Beverly Elementary School.

She enjoys participating in walk-a-thons, dances, gymnastics and cheerleading. She also loves playing soccer, singing, reading and writing her own books.

Dyer, 9, is the daughter of Mike and Kelli Dyer of Elkins. She has one sister, Leah, and is the granddaughter of Buddy and Mary Rowan of Elkins, Robert and Lucille Lowther of Elkins and Linda Dyer of Clarksburg.

She attends Beverly Elementary School, where she is in fourth grade and attends Elkins Church of the Nazarene. Dyer is member of the Ski-Hi 4-H Club, plays Upward basketball and is in Girls on the Run at Beverly Elementary School. Her pastimes include horseback riding, hanging out with friends, hunting and being outdoors.

Gibson, 9, is the daughter of Tim Gibson and Amber Gibson and Jason and Kristie Vandevander all of Elkins. She has one brother, Brody Mason Vandevander. She is the granddaughter of Jerry and Anita Gibson of Elkins, Owen and Vesta Vandevander of Valley Bend, Herman and Linda Ketterman and Randy and Sheryl Ware of Valley Head.

Gibson attends Midland Elementary School, where she is in fourth grade. She is a member of the Gilman Seneca 4-H, Girl Scout Troop No. 5000 and plays soccer on the Seneca Soccer league. She also enjoys gymnastics.

Martin will turn 11 today, Sept. 27, and she is the daughter of Todd and Susie Martin of Elkins. She has one sister, Tessa Martin, and is the granddaughter of Darrell and Sharron Reckart and Jim and Lois Martin, all of Elkins.

She is very active in playing youth spring soccer and is a participant for the Girls on the Run 5K Race. Martin loves dancing, cheerleading, gymnastics and volunteering with her mother. She is a fifth-grade student at Midland Elementary School.

Pratt, 9, is the daughter of Seth and Michelle Pratt of Elkins. She has several siblings, including Curt Conrad, Joel and Emily Conrad-Timmons, Liam Timmons and Lilly Marie Vaage, who is her host sister and Norwegian exchange student. She is the granddaughter of Kenneth and Sharon Burgess of Beverly and Jim and Harriet Pratt of John's Island, S.C. Pratt's sister, Emily, was princess in the royal court in 2007.

She is an honor-roll student at Third Ward Elementary School, where she is in the fourth grade and helps with tutoring. She attends First United Methodist Church and is active in the Missions Club. She is a second-year member of the Elkins Otters Swim team, Elkins Bengals cheerleader, Girls on the Run, Old Brick Playhouse and Awana Club at the Alliance Church. She also enjoys gymnastics, tennis and being around animals.

Kennard-Terry, 9, is the son of Justin and Cristin Terry of Elkins and Megan Kennard of Elkins. He has one brother, Domanick Kennard-Terry, and two sisters, Skylar and Aliyah Stout. He is the grandson of Cindy Terry-Hutton and Bobby Hutton, Brad Terry, Mark and Sue Talbott, Ernest Evans and Sarah Cooper Evans and Edwin Kennard. He is the great-grandson of Leroy Chewning and the late Carolyn Chewning, Carolyn DeMotto and Gary Terry, Goldie Kennard and the late Edward Kennard and the late Waldo and Janet Cooper.

He is in fourth grade at Jennings Randolph Elementary School. He enjoys riding dirt bikes, snowboarding, baseball, basketball, reading, drawing, coloring and cooking.

Loudin, 9, is the son of Jeffrey and Melody Loudin of Elkins. He has one brother, Blake Cubler, and is the grandson of Danny and Nancy Loudin of Norton. He is an honor-roll student at Third Ward Elementary School, where he is currently in the fourth grade.

Loudin is a member of the Boy Scouts of America in the first-year Webios, Pack 88, Den 1. He also is a member of the YMCA Mighty Mights All-Stars and is a piano student of Marijane Kiley. In his spare time, he enjoys playing Xbox video games. He is active in fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He also attends Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

The minor court will accompany Queen Silvia LXXVI during her royal coronation at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at the outdoor amphitheater of Davis & Elkins College.
