Several Buckhannon residents reported seeing a black bear wandering the streets of Buckhannon Thursday morning, but the animal was able to elude capture.
Police Chief Matthew Gregory said his department received multiple calls around 8 a.m., saying a bear was seen along Randolph and Pocahontas streets.
Officers combed the area, even checking local parks in an attempt to locate the bear.
"We never did find it," Gregory said.
