LOUISVILLE, Ky. - West Virginia Wesleyan's women snagged the team title in the Silver Race at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic held on Saturday.
The Lady Bobcats rolled in the small-school division, finishing first in a field that featured 42 full teams and 339 finishers.
Wesleyan carded a team score of 73 points, outdistancing runner-up Shorter College, which scored 204 points.
Ashli Knotts led the tight Wesleyan pack, covering the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:28, placing sixth. She was followed by teammates Loren McDaniel (10th, 19:38), Erica Walker (21st, 19:52), Rachael Hulett (22nd, 19:53) and Christine Azevedo (25th, 19:59).
In the men's race, West Virginia Wesleyan's men placed 39th in the "Blue Division" of the Classic.
Nathan Whitacre was the top Bobcat finisher, placing 144th in the 367-runner field.
The Hampshire High graduate was followed by teammate Lucas Greza, who was 157th in 26:44.
Wesleyan had three runners in the Silver Race. Andrew Knotts led that group with a time of 27:28. He was followed by teammate Matt Stadelman, a Grafton High graduate, in 28:24.
