Pocahontas remains unbeaten; Elkins, Tucker win

MILL CREEK - Ryan Irvine had 209 yards of total offense and scored three touchdowns to lead unbeaten Pocahontas County to a 30-8 win over Tygarts Valley Wednesday night at Bulldog Field.

Irvine finished with 129 yards rushing and had an 80-yard kickoff return for the Warriors, who improved to 6-0 with the win.

Pocahontas County opened the scoring when Irvine scored on a 14-yard run to make it 8-0 at the 6:26 mark of the first quarter.

The Bulldogs (3-2) tied the contest when Caleb Riggleman picked up a fumble and raced in for a 98-yard touchdown with under a minute remaining in the first quarter.

The contest remained tied at intermission and the Warriors struck first in the third quarter when Irvine took the opening kickoff in for an 80-yard score to make it 16-8.

Irvine scored on a 28-yard run late in the third quarter and Wyatt Workman capped off the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:18 left in the game.

Ronnie Nicholas finished with 100 yards rushing on 16 carries to lead Tygarts Valley's offense, which was plagued by six turnovers.

Riggleman had nine tackles and two interceptions to lead the Bulldogs' defense. Nicholas had eight stops and Jerad Taylor seven.

Tygarts Valley will visit Philippi for a 7 p.m. contest next Wednesday. Pocahontas County entertains Glade the same night.

Elkins 26, Belington 6

Jarrette Zopp finished with 142 yards rushing and scored a touchdown to lead Elkins past Belington 26-6 Wednesday at Wimer Stadium.

The Hornets (4-1) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead when Zopp scored on a 76-yard run with 3:29 left in the first quarter.

Cory Gillespie extended the lead for Elkins when he found the end zone from 44 yards out to make it 14-0 with 4:15 left in the first half.

The Hornets pushed the lead to 20-0 when Nick Malcomb scored on a 18-yard run with 6:10 left in the third quarter.

Malcomb scored on a 1-yard run with 4:37 left in the game to cap off the scoring for EMS.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard when Anthony Phillips scored on a 6-yard run to make it 26-6 with 3:09 left in the game.

Gillespie finished with 119 yards and Malcomb had 38 yards on the ground for Elkins.

Zach Hyre had five tackles, while Gillespie and Malcomb had four stops each for the Hornets. Logan Bickel had a interception.

Mark McVicker had 35 yards rushing to lead Belington.

Elkins will visit West Fairmont next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.

Tucker County 36, Philippi 14

PHILIPPI - Justin Fike finished with 183 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Tucker Valley past Philippi 36-14 Wednesday at George Byrer Field.

Ethan Crosten added 30 yards and one touchdown for the Wildcats (4-1), who led 36-0 at halftime. He also completed 2-of-4 passes for 45 yards and two scores.

James Baker collected two touchdown receptions for the Wildcats.

Tucker Valley will entertain Petersburg next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.
