GRAFTON?- Marty Elliot scored two goals to lead Buckhannon-Upshur to a 3-1 win over Grafton Thursday night in Big 10 Conference action.
Elliot found the back of the net 20 minutes into the game, scoring off an assist from freshman Matt McCoy. Grafton tied the game five minutes later on a penalty kick from Briar Hickman.
Elliot struck again early in the second half, scoring off an assist from Jordan Thompson at the 43 minute mark.
With only a minute left in the contest, the Bucs posted an insurance goal off the foot of freshman Marcus Lofton.
The speedy Lofton, who also starred in track at the middle school level, fielded a through ball from Elliot and ended the evening's scoring with an exciting breakaway goal.
"Grafton played us very physical and fast, which forced us to make quick movements with the ball," Donato said. "For the most part, we did a good job of that. When we kept the ball on the ground, we were able to get into the corners and create a lot of chances."
Buckhannon-Upshur outshot the Bearcats 12-4 and led in corner kicks 9-2. Cam Blake collected three saves in goal for the Bucs, while Stephen Tennant recorded 10 in net for Grafton.
Buckhannon-Upshur (10-6) will travel to Jefferson on Saturday.
B-U 7, Grafton 0
GRAFTON?- Buckhannon-Upshur remained perfect on the season, rolling to a convincing 7-0 victory over Grafton Thursday night in Big 10 Conference action.
Balance was the theme for the Lady Bucs as six different players found the net.
Freshman Taylor Starkey scored twice, while single goals came from Lexi Greene, Emily Godwin, Hannah Stankus, Brooklyn Waddell and Jessica Feronti.
Godwin produced two assists, while Starkey, Haley Ware and Alayna Wright had once each.
"We had to adjust to playing without Lauren Cvechko, who got a concussion in our last game, so it took our defense awhile to adjust to her not being there in the middle," Hasbrouck said. "I felt Erin Beer did a very good job and Courtney Warner came in off the bench and played very well."
B-U (15-1) will travel to Jefferson on Saturday.
B-U 3, Grafton 0
The Buckhannon-Upshur volleyball team remained unbeaten in Big 10 Conference play Thursday night, defeating Grafton in straight sets.
With the victory, the Lady Bucs move to 16-3-2 overall and 9-0 in league play.
B-U won the match 25-12, 25-11 and 25-10.
"The girls had a good win this evening," B-U coach Sheena Westfall said. "Our intensity could have been better, but we were able to run more plays offensively, which the girls were able to execute and finish."
McKenzie Leigh hit double figures with 10 kills. She was complemented by Leah Blend with seven, Sydney Bush with five and Courtney Reed with four.
Setter Lindsey Wagoner led with 20 assists and six aces, while Sarah Ling paced the defense with five digs.
"We were able to utilize our girls off the bench more tonight," Westfall said. "Ashley Mullens, Casey Frederick and Core McDaniels helped us offensively with serving, and Desiree King got to change things up serving as well."
The Lady Bucs will entertain Elkins on Tuesday.
Tygarts Valley 2 (2), Highland County 0 (0)
MILL?CREEK?-The Tygarts Valley volleyball team picked up a pair of wins over Highland County Thursday night.
The Lady Bulldogs (6-3) won the first contest of the evening, 25-13 and 25-18.
Shanda Howell led Tygarts Valley with 11 kills and five aces. Kelsey Arbogast followed with 12 assists and five aces.
In the second game, Tygarts Valley won the match, 25-16 and 25-23.
Howell has six kills and Erin Murphy tallied seven aces. Charity Lower finished with seven assists, while Rachel New had two blocks.
"I'm happy that we're playing as a team," Tygarts Valley coach Jackie Wetzel said. "We are playing together as a unit."
Tygarts Valley will travel to Pendleton on Wednesday for a PVC?contest.
