Applause & Boos

October 12, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Applause to West Virginia University basketball coach Bob Huggins, his staff and the hundreds of area residents who attended Wednesday's Health Heart Fundraiser for local athletic legend Roy Simms. The event, a benefit designed to help pay medical costs for Simms, was a huge success, and featured local businessmen Mike Ross and Ike Morris donating $10,000 each to the cause.

Applause to Dr. Joseph Super, the Barbour County superintendent of schools, for offering information on the county's proposed excess levy and bond call recently at both a Philippi City Council meeting and the Barbour County candidates forum. Like his Randolph County counterpart, Dr. James Phares, Super is working hard to get out the word to voters prior to the Nov. 6 election.

Boo to any eligible adult who isn't registered by Tuesday's deadline to vote in the Nov. 6 election. Anyone who doesn't exercise his or her right to vote has no right to complain about our government. So register to vote ... and then voice your opinion through your ballot.

Applause to Alderson-Broaddus College officials on their announcement that a new residential village will be constructed on campus. The facility will allow 400 new students to attend the college next year.

Applause to our readers. This has been National Newspaper Week, and despite all the work we put into each day's edition of The Inter-Mountain, none of it would mean a thing without you, our loyal readers. Thank you for your support and your interest in our community.
