Lady Colts cruise past Keyser

PHILIPPI - Marissa Carey and Emilee Anglin scored two goal each to lead Philip Barbour to a 7-0 win over Keyser Monday in Class AA, Region II, Section 2 tournament action at George Byrer Field.

With the win the Lady Colts (8-11-2) advanced to sectional semifinal play and will travel to Frankfort today for a 6 p.m. contest.

"We were happy to come away with the win," Philip Barbour coach Pete Ferguson said. "It was nice that we came out and scored a lot of goals. We had a great first half."

Philip Barbour made quick work of the Lady Golden Tornadoes early on and stormed out to a 5-0 lead at the half.

Lindsay Riley got the Lady Colts on the scoreboard when she scored an unassisted goal four minutes into the contest.

Carey then made it 2-0 when she scored the first of her two goals and the midway point of the first half.

Anglin scored her first goal two minutes later to push the Philip Barbour lead to 3-0. Celeste Kelly assisted on the score.

Lori Knight found the back of the net from 35 yards out with 13 minutes remaining in the first to put the Lady Colts in front 4-0.

Kelly capped off the scoring for Philip Barbour in the first half when she scored with six minutes to go.

Carey's breakaway goal 14 minutes into the second half extended the Lady Colts' lead to 5-0.

With 10 minutes remaining, Anglin ended the scoring in the contest when knocked in a deflection off Keyser keeper Audrey Cochran.

Philip Barbour held an 18-2 advantage in shots on goal for the contest.

The Lady Colts also had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

Kelsie Smallwood had one save in net for Philip Barbour. Cochran collected five stops for the visitors.

Keyser ends the season with a 1-21-1 overall mark.
