Mabel Yokum, 98, of Seneca Rocks, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, in Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.
She was born July 11, 1914, at Seneca Rocks, and was the daughter of the late Eston Yokum and Cynthia Elizabeth Judy Yokum.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Carl A. Yokum; and one nephew, Charles Jackson Yokum.
In 1954, Miss Yokum and her father made their home with her brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Shirley Yokum, until 2005. She played an important role raising her many nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed gardening and keeping busy with the family business. She was a member of Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church.
She loved her God and family and was strong in her faith.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Shirley Yokum of Seneca Rocks; one nephew, Samuel D. (Laura Kim) Yokum of Seneca Rocks; two nieces, Patsy (Craig) White of Fairmont and Sharon (Joe) Maluo of Honolulu, Hawaii; five great-nieces, Elizabeth Huffman, Tammey Pyle, Nohea Walker, Kehau Smith and Nikki Yokum; nine great-nephews, Virgil "Bub" Yokum, Jody Yokum, Konane Maluo, Aukai Maluo, Colin, Davin and Andy White, Casey and Luke Yokum; and 16 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and three great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews.
Family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Family also will receive friends Wednesday from 10 till 11 a.m. at Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct 17, at 11 a.m. at Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul O'Gorek officiating. Interment will follow in the Yokum Family Cemetery at Seneca Rocks.
