KEYSER?- Philip Barbour's girls raced to the Class AA, Region II title Thursday afternoon at Frankfort High School.
The Lady Colts placed four girls in the top ten to defeated the host Lady Falcons, 45-66.
Coach Missy Kaiser's defending state champs made a strong showing in the win. Brianna Waybright led the way placing second in 21:11. She was followed closely by teammates Allison Villers (4th, 21:31), Marissa Long (5th, 21:52), and Katie Mahoney (9th, 22:46).
Frankfort's Katie Jan won the individual title, crossing in 20:27.
Tucker County's girls placed fifth with a team score 107. The Mountain Lions placed two girls in the top twenty - Ashley Cassidy in 7th at 22:04 and Taylor Ambrose in 13th at 23:14.
The girls field featured eight full teams and 61 total competitors.
On the boy's side, Frankfort took the team title, narrowly edging Philip Barbour 44-52.
The tightly packed Colts put five runners in the top twenty as Scott Nesland (4th, 18:10), Trey Furby (7th, 18:36), Trevor Matko (11th, 19:18), Tyler Baldwin (14th, 19:30) and Andrew Phillips (16th, 19:38) led the way.
Bridgeport's Abe Merinar won the individual title with a time of 17:50, outlasting a strong performance from runner-up Trae Miller of Frankfort, who as nine seconds back.
Tucker County placed eighth as a team with 184 points. Walker Blosser was the top Mountain Lion finisher in 22nd.
The boys race featured ten full teams and 69 total finishers.
Next week's state meet is set for Saturday at Cabell Midland High School.
