The fourth annual Treasure on the Mountain event raised more than $140,000, the Snowshoe Foundation announced.

At the conclusion of the event, the Snowshoe Foundation raffled off $1 million in cash and prizes. Treasure on the Mountain is a raffle that features $250,000 in cash and prizes. Numbers are drawn, lottery style, with a winner every five minutes.

Treasure is the largest of the three annual fundraising events the Snowshoe Foundation holds to help support the local community. At the end of this upcoming grant cycle, the Snowshoe Foundation will have awarded more than $1 million to the Pocahontas, Randolph and Webster communities through grant awards and higher education scholarships.

"Our goal at the Snowshoe Foundation is to enhance the quality of life in Pocahontas, Randolph and Webster counties by financially investing in local organizations or individuals working in the areas of health, human services, education and the arts, recreation, culture and the environment," Stephanie Dilley, executive director of the Snowshoe Foundation, said. "The Foundation is particularly interested in projects involving youth and families."

Some of the projects funded completely or partially by the Snowshoe Foundation in 2012 are:

- Pocahontas County Family Resource Network - safe sleep for infants

- Randolph County's Valley Head Fire Department- smoke detector program

- Webster County Family Resource Network - back to school splash.

This past grant cycle, the Foundation awarded $30,000 in higher education scholarships and grand awards in the amount of $93,000, returning to their community more than $120,000.

The Snowshoe Foundation hosts three fundraisers annually. Tickets will be available in mid-November for Treasure on the Mountain for Aug. 3; The Ice Dinner on Feb. 22; and the 11th annual Golf Tournament on June 14.

"The Snowshoe Foundation Board of Directors would like to thank Snowshoe Mountain, their employees and volunteers; ParMar, WV Radio Corporation and The Inter-Mountain for their generous donations of time and resources. They helped make this a great fundraising year for the Foundation," said Dilley.
