Students in Randolph County public schools will be dismissed three hours early today, officials said, because of the severe winter storm that already is affecting parts of the region.

Pocahontas County's public schools also will be dismissed early, with students leaving at 12:30 p.m. today.

Barbour County is not dismissing early today, officials said, but all extracurricular activities have been canceled.

Grant, Hardy and Pendleton counties' school systems already had canceled school for today because of the impending severe weather from remnants of Hurricane Sandy. Parts of the state are expected to experience a range of severe conditions, such as high winds, rain, flooding and snow accumulation.

A blizzard warning is in effect for Randolph, Pocahontas and Pendleton counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Anyone with cancellation announcements to share with The Inter-Mountain's readers can send them to newsroom@theintermountain.com or call The Inter-Mountain at 304-636-2124.
