Davis & Elkins College has issued an update with regard to classes and related services, as additional students have left campus because of storm-related conditions in the region, officials report. D&E released the following information Thursday afternoon:

The cleanup of branches and debris continues on campus, and crews are scheduled to arrive to begin restoring power. While power has been restored to some parts of the City of Elkins, it is not widespread. On Wednesday, many students chose to leave campus. School officials offered thanks to families for helping with transportation needs and to those who let them know of their safe arrival. Approximately 100 students have elected to remain on campus with continuing access to heat, power, and fresh, warm food in the Madden Student Center.

The college reports it will provide 48-hour notice in advance of the resumption of classes. Until further notice, employees are encouraged to stay home, as parking lots continue to be cleared. They have been advised to consult with their immediate supervisor and check their D&E email account for additional information.

Finally, the delightful Old Time musicians who have helped keep spirits high are also leaving campus. The school offered its thanks to the musicians and to the Augusta Heritage Center staff for the music and square dance during the storm.

Several events scheduled through D&E Hospitality Services have been canceled or rescheduled. The following events will not take place as scheduled:

11/1 Appalachian Music & Dance Club event

11/3 West Virginia Writer's Conference, SAT testing, Augusta Fiddlers Luncheon, Admission Open House, Volleyball dinner, Big Daddy Weave Concert
