Elkins resident Margaret Kerr Beckwith is trying to set up a meeting with Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, seeking his support for her appointment to the 11th Senatorial District.

Beckwith also is seeking support through a petition.

According to unofficial results, Sen. Walk Helmick, who currently holds the Senate seat, has been elected as the state commissioner of agriculture. This will create an opening for the rest of his unexpired term.

"I am trying to meet with the governor Friday," Beckwith said Wednesday afternoon.

"Only the governor can appoint the individual to complete the remainder of Walt Helmick's term," Beckwith said.

The 11th Senatorial District includes Randolph, Upshur, Webster, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Pendleton and Grant counties.

Beckwith said she is trying to gather support from everyone and let them know her intentions.

"I want to help the people of West Virginia," Beckwith said. "I am all about the people."

Beckwith said people can visit and type "Beckwith" in the search window to find her petition.
