A Community and Compassion Food Drive is being sponsored by the Elkins Rotary Club, Randolph County Schools and the Randolph County Alternative Learning Center.
This food drive has been organized to help restock the empty shelves at local food banks, officials said..
"There is a critical shortage of food in our area," said Angie Wilson, principal of Randolph County Alternative Learning Center. "We are trying to help our neighbors in this time of need."
Nonperishable food items will be collected from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. now through Sunday.
Collection sites have been set up at Elkins Kmart, Elkins Walmart, Elkins Big Lots, Erickson's Service Station and Shop 'n Save Express in Elkins.
"Personnel will be on site at the Kmart location," Wilson said.
Food collected will be distributed to Tyrand Cooperative Ministries in Mill Creek, Catholic Charities West Virginia, the back pack program and the Rock.
Wilson said questions can be directed to her at 304-636-9176 or Rotary representative Amy Schumacher at 304-636-1350.
