George Edward Wamsley, 88, formerly of Port St. Lucie, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at his home in Williamsport, Md.
George was born July 23, 1924, at Valley Bend, Randolph County, a son of the late Benjamin Webster and Ruth (Pritt) Wamsley.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He enjoyed playing golf and playing bridge following his retirement from the coal business. He liked to engage in a challenging debate with his family even if he didn't believe in what was being discussed.
He is survived by one son and spouse, Bill and Paula Wamsley of Sharpsburg, Md.; one daughter, Linda Wamsley of Charleston; one sister-in-law, Virginia Wamsley of Morgantown; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wamsley of St. Clairsville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Matthew Wamsley, Mark Wamsley, Nathan Wamsley, Rachael DeWitt and Nadine Neilly; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Betty Loraine (Ramsey) Wamsley, March 4, 2011; one son, John Scott Wamsley, Nov. 20, 2003; one sister and brother-in-law, Christine W. and Edward J. Lobb; one brother, Benjamin Webster "June" Wamsley Jr.; one nephew, Benjamin "Buzzy" Wamsley III; and one sister-in-law, Dottie (Ramsey) Brune.
A family visitation will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 10, at Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel; 295 S. Price St. from 2 to 6 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted in Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins Sunday at 2 p.m. with Andrew Snelson officiating.
