The Heavner Grove CEOS hosted its September meeting at Mount Rupert Church. The hostesses were Elaine Wright and Leslie Wright.

Devotional leader Hilda Ketterman read Isaiah 15:4-11. Other readings included "Mouth Guard" and "Key to the Puzzle."

The minutes were read and approved. Mildred White gave the treasurer's report.

CEOS Week was held Sept. 2-8. Clubs had displays in various business windows. Heavner Grove's entry won second place.

The CEOS minifair took place Sept. 7. Eloise Tenney attended from the club.

Several items were discussed, including Parish House, Blankets of Hope, Christmas ornaments and a silent auction.

Sharon Carr, the health motivator, presented a very good program. She gave ideas on how to cut calories when eating out, and also how to cut calories in children's lunches and snacks. Children should be rewarded with kisses, not food. She also reminded the club about getting flu shots.

The lesson, "Managing Your Family Tree," was given by Judy Haddix. She had several photo albums of her ancestors. Cards were sent to Sheila Light and sons, Marietta Gillespie, Oneta Stone and Bob and Dorothy Blake.

During show and tell, Joyce Zirkle presented three beautiful quilts; Hilda Ketterman showed drawing made by her husband; Helen Lantz displayed an embroidered wall hanging; and Mildred Lantz showed a dress made for her by her mother.

On Oct. 10, the monthly meeting of the Heavner Grove CEOS took place at Mount Rupert Church.

Eloise Tenney, the acting president, called the meeting to order. Devotional leader Hilda Ketterman read Psalm 26, followed by a reading "Where is the Lord's House," the Lord's Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes were read by Helen Lantz. Ima Jean Goodwin gave the treasurer's report. Shirley Warner accepted dues and donations for the Parish House.

Breast Cancer Awareness events were attended by Joyce Zirkle, Hilda Ketterman and Shirley Warner.

Health motivator Sharon Carr gave a reminder about getting a flu shot and talked about allergies to the shot, along with recommendations for staying healthy.

Eloise Tenney, Shirley Warner and Terry Morrison met at the church on Oct. 8 to work on the scrapbook.

Steve Abel, a candidate for the Upshur County Commission, was the guest speaker at the meeting.

Well wishes cards were sent to Mildred White, Marietta Gillispie, Oneta Stone and Robert and Vonnie Poling.

Hilda Ketterman made the ornament for the CEOS club that will be placed in the ornament drawing.

The October lesson, "Time for Tea," was given by Sharon Carr. Several interesting facts were presented. Show and tell featured pictures belonging to Shirley Warner. Door prizes were won by Joyce Zirkle, Helen Lantz and Catherine and Letha Light.

There were lots of fun items at the silent auction, which closed the meeting. The next meeting is set for noon Wednesday at the Mount Rupert Church.
