A countdown to The Inter-Mountain's biggest edition of the year has begun. The Wednesday, Nov. 21, paper, is mere days away, and excitement already is building among area shoppers.
One reason it is considered to be the premier edition of the year is because it will include - a day earlier than nearly all other newspapers - the Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales fliers for local stores.
Right now, Wednesday's edition will feature up to at least 18 different sales fliers, including two from Walmart. Not every edition may contain the same number of inserts, as advertisers select the delivery and vending sales territories in which they want their specials included. However, while the paper cannot disclose in advance any of the amazing sales these stores are offering, the fliers are well worth the wait.
"We know our readers count on these sales fliers to map out their holiday shopping," said Heather Goodwin Henline, the paper's publisher and general manager. "Getting the fliers a day earlier than other consumers is a big advantage for shoppers who want to strategize how they can get the most out of their holiday shopping budget, no matter the size."
The Inter-Mountain does not produce a paper on holidays, including Thanksgiving. That is why the Wednesday edition is enhanced each year and rivals the weekender package the paper publishes every Saturday.
"It will exceed our standard Saturday edition in terms of not only the advertising inserts, but also news and feature content," Henline said.

Circulation Director Mindy Bond said this paper's enhanced value is why it will be priced at $1, the same as the standard Saturday rate. One discount coupon or sales flier can more than pay for the cost of the edition, Bond said, encouraging shoppers to pick up more than one copy.
Why buy The Inter-Mountain, one may ask, when some of these inserts can be found online or in other sources?
"It is a convenience for customers. They get all of the sales fliers in one simple package," Henline said. "Our papers will be stuffed with savings, and shoppers are guaranteed that any coupons in our paper will work at the checkout registers. There's no need to copy, paste or for other worries when waiting in those long Black Friday lines."
Bond urges readers who purchase the paper from a retail outlet, such as a convenience store, grocery center, pharmacy or gas station, to buy a copy early on Wednesday because this edition often sells out.
"This is especially true because our Nov. 21 paper will come out several hours earlier, giving shoppers and subscribers an additional advantage," Bond said.
Copies also will be for sale at The Inter-Mountain's main office, 520 Railroad Ave. in Elkins. Staff will be outside beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
If you want to receive a paper at home, it's not too late to sign up for delivery service in time for the holidays. For more information, contact The Inter-Mountain's circulation department at 304-636-2121.
