Mary Louise Danley Ice, 98, a resident of Elkins, departed this life early Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2012, in Valentine's Personal Care Home at Elkins.

She was born Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1914, at Clarksburg, the youngest child of the late Richard A. and Mary Ellen Brown Danley.

On Oct. 28, 1931, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Walter Sherman Ice, who preceded her in death Nov. 9, 1977.

Surviving are one son, David Lee Ice and wife, Carol, of Elkins; five grandchildren, Deborah Ice Fincham and husband, David, of Beverly, Donna Ice Simmons and husband, David, and Delaine Lynell Ice, all of Elkins, Walter Sherman Ice and wife, Jenny, of Charleston and Timothy Mathew Ice and wife, Stephanie, of Newport News, Va.; 11 great-grandchildren, Derek Fincham and wife, Hannah, of Beverly, Danielle Fincham Riggins and husband, Nickoli, and Leesa Lorrayne Ice, all of Elkins, Marissa Ice Plauger and husband, Adam, of Beverly, Brandon Lee Simmons of Elkins, Trenna Simmons Harlan and husband, George, of Elkins; Courtney Cupp Ranson and husband, Jason, of Morgantown, Brice David Cupp of Augusta, Ga., J. Grant Cupp of Pittsburgh, Pa., Meagan Leigh Ice and Mathew Thomas Ice, both of Newport News, Va.; and five great-grandchildren, Danica Jean-Louise Riggins, Nadia Avenelle Riggins, Juliann Elizabeth Harlan, Taelynn Grace Harlan and Ava Nichole Kaposy, all of Elkins.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert Sr. and Harry Danley; two sisters, Ruth Orgill and Helen Rector; and one grandson, David Lee Ice II.

Mary was a graduate of Washington-Irving High School at Clarksburg. In 1939, Walter and Mary opened Tygart Valley Furniture Co. at 4 Davis Ave. in Elkins. Upon completion of college and four years of military service, their son David joined them in the home decorating business. The business closed in 1999, following 60 years in the same location. Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church, Woman's Club of Elkins, where she served in many different offices, was a member of Davis & Elkins College Beta Alpha Beta and the University of Hard Knocks which is affiliated with Alderson Broaddus College.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Friday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Barry R. Moll and the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate, and entombment will follow in Maplewood Memorial Mausoleum at Elkins.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, WV 26241, in memory of Mrs. Ice.
