Elkins Middle School girls earn split with Patriots

The Elkins Middle School girls basketball team split a pair of games with Robert L. Bland Thursday in their season opener.

The Lady Hornets (1-0)?won the varsity contest, 38-31. Sierra Poling finished with 11 points, while Christine Zurbuch and Chloe Phillips added eight points each for EMS.

Alexis Rumbach fired in 15 points to lead the Lady Patriots.

Elkins lost the junior varsity contest, 45-28. Taylor Phillips had 13 points to lead EMS, while Susan Riggleman added six points.

Elkins will visit Petersburg at noon on Saturday.

EMS JV team wins

WESTON - The Elkins Middle School boys basketball teams opened the season by splitting a pair of games at Robert L. Bland Thursday.

The EMS junior varsity team earned a 31-30 victory as Zach Shreve scored nine points, Elliott White added seven and Garrett Smyton six.

Shawn Moran led the Patriots with 12 points.

RLB took the varsity contest 59-33 as Jared Mullooly fired in 13 points.

Blake Loftis had Curtis Bullock had seven each for the Hornets.

Both Elkins teams will travel to Petersburg at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The junior varsity game will begin at 3 p.m.
