The West Virginia State Police are reporting that the standoff with a shooting suspect has ended. According to Associated Press reports, West Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous said the suspect came out of the house with a weapon, posed a threat to officer and was shot and killed by law enforcement on scene.

The West Virginia State Police and Randolph County Sheriff's Department are reported to be in a standoff with an alleged shooter.

Police were notified around 2 p.m. today that a woman had been shot twice and called 911. Several state police and Randolph County Sherrif's Deputies were on scene at a residence in Coalton near Broadway Avenue and several left armed with assault rifles after speaking with residents gathered at the home.

A Randolph County Emergency Squad ambulance was on scene at the Coalton home and took one person to a nearby field, across from Coalton Elementary School, where a landing zone for Life Flight was set up.

According to Associated Press reports, Baylous said details about the shooting are unclear, but the victim was able to call 911. The victim has been taken to a hospital.

The shooter was believed to be inside the house, and police were in a standoff with him late in the day.

Around 5:30 p.m., The Inter-Mountain observed several police officers including state police and sheriff's deputies parked along Jimtown Road. The officers were visibly armed with weapons and appeared to be searching for someone. There were also police cruisers along the Coalton-Mabie road and near the main road near "Punkintown Hill."

Randolph County Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Phares told The Inter-Mountain that Coalton Elementary School was placed on lockdown around 2:10 p.m. He said students were released at 3:15 p.m.

"It was reported to us there was an unapprehended suspect in the neighborhood," Phares said. "All the kids were safe. The shooting was not in close proximity to the school."
