In addition to the Preschool Story Hour weekly programs, the Philippi Public Library will be hosting several other children's activities for the upcoming holiday season. Weekly sessions are held on Wednesday morning from10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and include stories about Christmas, Santa and reindeer, art and craft fun and music. The library will offer a Saturday at the Library Preschool Story Hour Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for parents and preschool aged-children.

Director Judy Buckner Larry said, "A certain someone has left candy canes hidden in the area for children to find. There will be a Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. We invite all children ages 2 through 12 to meet at the library and help us find the hidden candy canes."

Once at the library, participating children will sing Christmas carols, listen to area train enthusiast Ray Shaw read "The Polar Express," make Christmas crafts, enjoy cookies and hot cocoa and then hunt by flashlight for the hidden candy canes. Parents must accompany and pre-register their children for this evening of Christmas excitement. The Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt is being co-sponsored by Philippi Main Street, Philippi Convention and Visitors Bureau, Philippi United Methodist Church, Adaland Mansion and the Philippi Public Library.

The library invites children ages 2 through 12 to don their pajamas and come to the library for "Pajamarama Night at the Library" Dec. 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to participate in a night of Christmas stories, crafts, cookies and lots of fun.

The library is also hosting a "Book-to-Movie Night" Dec. 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The movie will be "The Polar Express," which is based on the book by the same name by Chris Van Allsburg.
