Elkins High School to honor former coach tonight against B-U

Elkins hosts rival Buckhannon-Upshur tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium for a Big 10 Conference matchup.

The Tigers have dedicated the season to former head coach Roy Simms, who passed away Nov. 17. Simms was the EHS head basketball coach for two seasons.

Officials are planning a moment of silence for Simms before the game and will read stats from his playing career at Elkins during timeouts and at the end of all the periods tonight.

The team will wear warmup shirts, while the cheerleaders will wear bows in their hair in honor of Simms tonight.

The team has also dedicated the season to Simms.

The Tigers (2-0) are coming off a win over Clay-Battelle, 59-52, this past Saturday .

Buckhannon-Upshur (1-2) is coming off an overtime loss to Hampshire, 53-51, last Saturday .
