Samuel E. Van Horn, 78, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, in Louis A. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Aug. 30, 1934, at Meyersdale, Pa., a son of the late Carl Late and June Evangeline Miller Van Horn.
On Jan. 6, 1956, he married Ruth Jean Jenkins, who preceded him in death April 13, 1997.
He is survived by a companion, Amelia McCoy of Buckhannon; two sons, Steven Daniel Van Horn and wife, Barbara, of Keller, Texas, and Samuel Hugh Van Horn and wife, Denise, of Annapolis, Md.; one daughter, Julie Ruth Van Horn of Atlanta, Ga.; mother-in-law, Ethel Francis Jenkins of Buckhannon; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary June Kokos of Elyria, Ohio.
Mr. Van Horn was a mechanical engineer. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Buckhannon Lodge 1736, and he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Friends will be received today from 10 a.m. until noon at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. today in Maple Grove Cemetery in Fairmont with the Rev. Ronald McCauley officiating.
