Denver Lowell Roy, 68, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 19, 2012, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. He had been in his usual health, and death was attributed to cardiac arrest.
He was born Sunday, March 12, 1944, at Elkins, a son of the late Lindsey Parker and Mary Love Smith Roy.
On Dec. 1, 1971, at Elkins, he was married to the former Melinda Lee Gray, who preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2007.
Surviving are three sons, Eric L. Lucas and wife, Frankie, of Beverly, Jerry L. Lucas and wife, Sandra, of Elkins and Kumar Jason Lambert and wife Jennifer, of Elkins; two brothers, Roger Roy of Elkins and Ronnie B. Roy and wife, Bonna, of Sanford, N.C.; one sister, Maxine Varney of Elkins; seven grandchildren, Dr. Desiree Lucas, Lynnlee Wileman, Dylan Lucas, Cody, Katie, Bret and Jason Lambert; and his companion, Shirley Lambert of Elkins.
Preceding him in death were one sister, Ruth Ann Jordan; and one brother, Parker Roy.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School, and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War in Germany. He was a truck driver for Elkins Builders Supply for more than 30 years, and was very interested in current and world events, mystery stories and cold case files. He was a member of Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Saturday, Dec. 22 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. S. Kent Price will officiate, and interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, where the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program will conduct full military honors.
