Holidays bring tourneys

Area teams to spend break on the hardwood

Despite the Christmas break, area high school basketball teams will stay busy in holiday tournament action this week.

Undefeated Elkins (5-0) will take part in the Lewis County Holiday Classic that begins on Thursday.

The Tigers face Oak Hill at 5:30 p.m., while the host Minutemen tangle with Ripley in the second game.

Brandon Roth and the rest of his Elkins teammates will compete in the Lewis County Holiday Classic that begins Thursday. The undefeated Tigers will face Oak Hill in their first game on Thursday, while the host Minutemen face Ripley.

Elkins then faces Ripley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Lewis County squares off against Oak Hill in the nightcap.

Philip Barbour will compete in the Lincoln Holiday Tournament.

The Colts battle North Marion at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty meets Lincoln in the second game.

The title game will take place at 9:15 p.m. on Friday with a consolation contest slated for 5:45 p.m.

The Notre Dame BB&T Classic features the Petersburg girls vs. Liberty at 1 p.m. on Thursday, followed by the host Irish against Webster County.

The consolation game will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, while the championship game is set for 5 p.m.

The Buckhannon-Upshur girls, meanwhile, will compete in the Hampshire Holiday Tournament on Thursday and Friday.
