Thanks to the generosity of its patients and employees, Country Roads Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation will donate more than 500 items to local food pantries.
In honor of the holiday season, Country Roads encouraged people to either "tag" a Facebook photo for one of its locations and/or bring a non-perishable food item into the West Fairmont, East Fairmont or Buckhannon clinic.
As an incentive for the friendly competition to help others, Country Roads' owners agreed to match the number of items from the location with the most donations. West Fairmont had nine photo tags and 160 direct donations for a total of 169 items.
Country Roads will match that figure, for a total of 338 donated items. East Fairmont collected an additional 105 items, so The Soup Opera will be receiving 443 items. The Soup Opera feeds approximately 100 individuals daily.
"This donation will assist us in serving over 80 meals in the upcoming year," kitchen manager Barbara Mundell said.
The Buckhannon location collected 85 items plus eight photo tags, so The Upshur Parish House in Buckhannon will get 93 things to pass out.
"The donation made by Country Roads will help to feed six families for three days," director Alicia Rapking said.
"We truly appreciate the generosity of our patients and staff members and are incredibly pleased to help people in need where we live and work," co-owner Derek Falkenstein said. "This was our first time asking for donations in this way, and the response was overwhelming. I'm sure we will be making this an annual event and hope to exceed this year's figure in 2013."
