William "Bill" Reed, 90, a resident of the Bretz Community, Parsons, departed this life Friday evening, Dec. 28, 2012, at Cortland Acres at Thomas.
He was born Sunday, Feb. 19, 1922, at Bretz, a son of the late William Brannon Reed and the former Winnie Kate Long. He was twice married. First to late former Bernadine Ayers, and on Aug. 26, 1962, at Bretz, to the former Evelyn Lucille "Lucy" Harris, who preceded him in death Oct. 14, 1998.
Surviving are one son, Larry Bernard Reed of Grantsville; one stepdaughter, Carolyn Weese and husband, Bradley, of New York; and several nieces and three nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Judson L. Reed; two sisters, Flora Nell "Tony" Poling and Olga Phillips; and one nephew.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1941. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving from October 1943 until May 1946, during World War II and earning the Bronze Star. He was a supervisor for the former Dorman Mills for 30 years. Bill was an avid West Virginia University sports fan and a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home at Parsons on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at noon. The Rev. James Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, where the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Association will conduct full military honors.
