Iron Road Inn opens its doors

January 2, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

Amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the Iron Road Inn, a railroad-themed inn with lodge buildings, opened its doors to guests on Dec. 20.

Owners Harold and Julia Elbon thank their employees, local vendors and Davis Trust Company for making the project happen.

The inn was originally built in the 1980s and was purchased last November from the Fussell estate. It is now renewed, decorated in a railroad theme and nestled in a wooded cove between the Freedom Bank and Western Steer/ Gandy Dancer off the Beverly Pike.

At the reservation desk of the newly opened Iron Road Inn in Elkins are, from left, Rebecca Spencer, housekeeping staff, and Rebecca Paige, front desk staff.

A large lobby, the Station Room, is complete for guest's enjoyment and decorated with wall murals of local rail sites by Heather Johnson. There is a rear patio for summer evenings.

The inn has spacious double, queen, adjoining rooms, with one suite decorated to honor Marilyn Monroe - who loved to ride trains - and features handicap accessible rooms. The upper lodge building with 18 rooms offers exterior entrances with queen adjoining rooms, kitchenette suites and single rooms.
