No. 1 Hilltoppers run past Senators

D&E women knock off WVC leaders

West Liberty showed why its the nation's top-ranked team with a convincing 120-61 win over Davis &?Elkins College Thursday night at the McDonnell Center.

The Hilltoppers, who are now 65-1 in their last 66 West Virginia Conference games, placed six players in double figures led by Alex Falk with 17 points. Chris Morrow added 15, former Wheeling Park standout Bubby Goodwin 14, C.J. Hester 13, Shawn Dyer 12 and Keene Cockburn 11.

Igor Premasunac led the Senators (1-7, 1-5 WVC) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Shane Brown added 10 points.

D&E held an early 3-2 lead before West Liberty went on a 16-2 run en route to building a 36-13 advantage midway through the first half.

The lead grew to 70-32 at the intermission.

The Senators were plagued by 27 turnovers in the contest, while the winners committed just four with 26 team assists.

D&E will remain home for a 4 p.m. contest Saturday against Urbana University.

West Liberty (11-0, 5-0) will entertain West Liberty at 4 p.m. on the same day.

Women's games

D&E 67, West Liberty 57

D&E turned in one its best defensive performances of the season to knock off WVIAC leader West Liberty, 67-57.

The Lady Senators, who improved to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in league games, held the Lady Hilltoppers to just 28 percent (16 of 67) from the floor.

Jorden Lykes scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for D&E, which led 27-18 at the intermission. Page Turner chipped in with 15 points.

D&E will return to action at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at Bluefield State for a league game.

West Liberty (6-3, 4-1) will host Pitt-Johnstown at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
