Stanley Watson Sr.

Stanley Roy Watson Sr., known to many as "Root," 49, of Leading Creek Road, departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

Stanley was born Thursday, Dec. 5, 1963, at Elkins, a son of the late Harold Richard Watson and Geraldine Ida Ross Watson.

Surviving is the love of his life, his wife, Patricia Shaffer; one daughter, Wendy Isner and fiance, Anthony Blackburn; two sons, Stanley Watson Jr. and wife, Chasity Kelley Watson, and Joshua Watson and companion, April Miller; three granddaughters, Miciah Kelley, Savannah Vannoy and Alexah Blackburn; one grandson, Chase Kelley; one aunt, Irene Cross and husband, Kenneth; one uncle, Charles Watson; seven brothers, Richard "Bub" Watson and wife, Veronica, Mark Watson, Kirby Watson, Ricky Shaffer and wife, Jamey, Charles "Porky" Shaffer and wife, Sabrina, Daniel Shaffer and Rocky Shaffer and wife, Terissa; seven sisters, Delores Shaffer and husband, James "Jimmy," Rebecca "Becky" Bender and husband, Jerry, Pamela "Pam" Fortney and husband, Dewayne, Sheria Blackburn and husband, Joseph "Joe," Tabitha "Tabby" Tharp, Cindy Chancellor and companion, Michael McGee Sr., and Carol Ann Shaffer; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very good friend, Linda Ferguson.

Preceding him in death, besides his loving parents, was his neighbor and special friend, Thomas "Lynn" Ferguson.

Stanley attended the schools of Randolph County, had worked for Tygart Moulding for 20 years and had worked for Bates Enterprises. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, fishing, ginsenging and spending time with his friends and family. He especially loved playing with his grandchildren whom he loved with all of his heart. He was the best father and grandfather. He was a kind-hearted and compassionate man who never knew a stranger. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and will always have a special place in our hearts.

Visitation will be conducted at the Randolph Funeral Home Friday, Jan. 11, from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Terry Cannon will officiate, and interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.
