Kroger stores raising donations

January 10, 2013

Kroger customers and associates have raised more than $7,300 for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

The total from the stores in the Mid-Atlantic region "reflects the spirit of giving that characterizes our customers," said Allison McGee, a spokesperson for The Kroger Co. "Many of our customers and associates have experienced losses in natural disasters, and we know how much financial support means in recoveries from property damage."

The money was sent to the American Red Cross disaster fund.

Kroger conducted a special campaign in its stores between Nov. 2 and 17, following the disastrous storm. Kroger placed coin boxes in all checkout lanes to make it easy for customers to donate.

Kroger operates 123 stores in West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and the eastern portions of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio from its Mid-Atlantic headquarters in Roanoke, Va.
