Tucker girls race past Irish

HAMBLETON - Tucker County limited Notre Dame to just five points in the first half and used 15 points from Bekah Simmons en route to an 70-29 win on Friday night.

Simmons also had 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Mountain Lions (7-5), who led 38-5 at halftime and 57-10 after three quarters of play.

Molly Angotti finished with 20 points to lead the Lady Irish.

"This was a good defensive game for us," Tucker County coach Jim Ambrose said. "I thought in the first half we came out and played well and shut down Angotti because she is a great shooter."

Tucker County will travel to Elkins Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Fairmont Senior 64, B-U 38

FAIRMONT?- Fairmont Senior used a 23-2 second-quarter run Friday to earn a 64-38 victory over Buckhannon-Upshur in Big 10 Conference action on Friday night.

The Polar Bears used the surge to turn a 9-5 lead at the start of the second quarter into a solid 32-7 halftime advantage.

Kelsey Hinzman led the Lady Bucs with 14 points and six rebounds, while Fairmont Senior was led sophomore forward Kaden Whaley with 14 points. B-U falls to 1-12 with the loss.

B-U will host East Fairmont on Wednesday.

Pendleton County 48, Pocahontas 45

FRANKLIN - Hillary Ord had 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Pendleton County past Pocahontas County 48-45 Friday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Kaylee Edwards followed with 10 points, while Danielle Gray chipped in with eight points for the Lady Wildcats (4-5).

Bobbie McNabb had 19 points, while Tristin Day added 14 points for the Lady Warriors (8-4), who led 23-21 at halftime.

Pocahontas County will host Charleston Catholic at 2 p.m. today for a non-conference matchup.

Pendleton County will travel to Union at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Lincoln ............ 64

Philip Barbour 49

SHINNSTON - Mikayla Prunty had 14 points to lead Lincoln past Philip Barbour 64-49 Friday in Big 10 Conference action.

Hayley Haning added 12 points, while Makayla McEwayne added 11 points for the Lady Cougars.

Lindsay Riley had 21 points, pulled down 18 rebounds and had four assists, while Haley Stewart added 13 points for the Lady Colts (2-7).

Philip Barbour will entertain Lewis County at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Big 10 play.

Boys basketball

Tucker County 44

Southern (Md.) 37

OAKLAND, Md. - Ian Nichols had 14 points and pulled down four rebounds to lead Tucker County past rival Southern (Md.) 44-37 Friday in non-conference action.

Nathaniel Goldstein added 10 points, while Tyler Snyder added five assists for the Mountain Lions (8-1).

Landon Todd had 12 points to lead the Rams.

Tucker County will visit Pocahontas County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a PVC contest.

East Hardy ............ 74

Pocahontas County 38

BAKER - Shawn Skovron had 17 points, 14 rebounds and three steals to lead East Hardy to a 74-38 Potomac Valley Conference win over Pocahontas County on Friday.

Tyler Mongold had a team-high 18 points and Levi Beck 17 for the Cougars.

Cary Robertson had 12 points for the Warriors.

East Hardy will host Pendleton County on Tuesday for a PVC contest.

Moorefield 50

Petersburg 36

MOOREFIELD - Garrett Keller had 17 points to lead Moorefield past Petersburg 50-36 on Friday night.

Lance Taylor added 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while Adam Snyder followed with nine points for the Yellow Jackets (4-5).

Brian George had 13 points to lead the Vikings.

Moorefield will host Tygarts Valley Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for a Potomac Valley Conference tilt.
