WVU?Extension educational dinner scheduled for Feb. 6

The WVU Extension Service will host an educational dinner meeting on Feb. 6 at Jackson's Mill.

The speaker this month will be Dr. Scott Bowdridge, an assistant professor of Food Animal Production in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences at WVU. Bowdridge received a BS in Agriculture Science from California State University, Chico and a PhD in Animal Genetics from Virginia Tech.

Prior to joining the faculty at WVU in 2011, Scott was a NIH postdoctoral fellow at the New Jersey Medical School studying parasite immunology and the role of innate immune cells in host protective immune responses. His current research is focused on the development of immunity in sheep resistant to roundworm parasite infection. Scott also serves as the faculty advisor to the ANS graduate student organization and coaches the WVU livestock judging team.

Scott will be centering his presentation around parasite management during the backgrounding phase in beef cattle and during the post-weaning phase in lambs.

The dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Dining Hall and the program will follow at the Assembly Hall. There will be no cost for the dinner, as it is being sponsored by Dominion Transmission.

Reservations must be made by Jan. 29 at the Upshur County Extension Office or by calling 304-473-4208.

This program will also be presented on Feb. 7 at the Tucker County Senior Center. The dinner which will cost $5 and is payable at the door. You may attend just the meeting at no charge. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the presentation. Each meeting is worth 3 credits toward renewal of your pesticide licenses.
