2:24 p.m.: Bomb threat evacuates Barbour County Schools

January 18, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

According to emergency scanner traffic, a bomb threat has caused the evacuation of Barbour County Schools.

Assistant Superintendent of Barbour County Schools Jeff Kittle said a handwritten letter was discovered shortly before 1 p.m. at one of the county's schools containing a bomb threat against all Barbour schools.

"It's unusual to get a county-wide threat so we're scrambling to make arrangements for the kids and keep them safe and contact the parents," Kittle said.

Scanner traffic has indicated that Philip Barbour High School will release students at the regular time, from the evacuation site. The assistant superintendent said an investigation was underway and would release no further details.

More information will be posted as it becomes available and full coverage can be found in Saturday's edition of The Inter-Mountain.
