MARIETTA, Ohio - West Virginia Wesleyan's women's track team posted a strong performance at Friday night's Marietta College Open. The Lady Bobcats won all three relays, and had eight different individuals win open events.
Six different schools participated in the meet, three from the conference and three from out of the WVIAC. This list included league schools Charleston, West Liberty and Wesleyan. Out-of-conference schools were Lynchburg, Muskingum, and the host Marietta squad. Also on hand was the energetic club team from KT Athletics.
Two field event titles were claimed by Cats, sophomore Gretchen Lantz in the long jump and freshman Jordan Tate in the high jump. Three individual wins were posted by Wesleyan sprinters; freshman Rebekah Lewis in the 300, senior Crystal Moreland in the 400, and senior Rana Conneway in the 500. Distance wise, senior Ashli Knotts won the mile, freshman Loren McDaniel the 3,000, and sophomore Dana Tomasello the 5,000.
Wesleyan's relay winner included the 4x200 relay squad of senior Valarie Jasper, sophomore Vicki Crise and freshmen Adrian Cunningham and Ali Crawford. The 4x400 team included Knotts, Crise, Cunningham, and junior Karena Moran. The DMR unit included senior Ashley Ferguson, junior Jaclyn Schiffour, senior Ashley Rizzo, and McDaniel.
Wesleyan returns to action on Feb. 16, traveling to the Kent State Invitational.
