An Elkins resident turned her frustration with snowy weather in the winter of 2009 into a productive venture. Teresa Stalnaker has completed a novel, "In The Light of Shadow," which gave her solace during this hectic time.
"Writing this book gave me a release," Stalnaker said.
Stalnaker will be signing copies of her book from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Main Line Books in Elkins.
Elkins resident Teresa Stalnaker will sign copies of her book ‘In The Light of Shadow’ at Main Line Books in Elkins from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
"The story is about a young woman that has to battle the torrents of winter," she said. "One that was not only alone physically, but alone emotionally due to her loss of memory. While the character is fictional, writing about her life started easing my pain."
Stalnaker said she has always enjoyed writing and has written poetry and short stories since she was old enough to know how to spell.
"Writing is my passion, my happy place of sorts," Stalnaker said. "I find during times of angst I write more, possibly for escape; the same reason I read."
Stalnaker, who works at Talbott Glass in Elkins, said she put down her writing for a time to care for a sick family member. Her friends and family encouraged her to finish writing her novel.
"I needed to find that person that got lost along the way," Stalnaker said. "I started writing again, and within a couple of months, my novel was complete."
"In The Light Of Shadow" is available at Main Line Books in Elkins, on Amazon.com as a book, for Kindle, Barnes and Noble on Nook, and on www.createspace.com.
