Tygarts Valley girls to don pink uniforms for cancer awareness

The Tygarts Valley girls basketball team will host a special event today.

The Lady Bulldogs will don white and pink uniforms in their 7:30 p.m. home contest against South Harrison to raise awareness about cancer.

All gate proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Center at Davis Memorial Hospital. The team recently sold t-shirts to the community and they are asked to wear them to the game.

The American Cancer Society will be on hand to talk to residents and give tips to help prevent cancer.

Also before the game, the Lady Bulldogs will honor any cancer survivor and their caregivers.

The event is part of Tygarts Valley standout Shanda Howell's senior project.

Other games on tap for this evening include Elkins at Fairmont Senior, ?Buckhannon-Upshur at Philip Barbour, Tucker County at Moorefield and East Hardy at Pendleton County.

In boys action, Tygarts Valley will travel to South Harrison in West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament action, Tucker County hosts Pendleton County and Pocahontas County visits Harman.

This week's weather postponed most of the area high school sporting events.

The Big 10 Conference swimming championships will not be held, and the regional meet will take place Saturday at West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Big 10 Conference wrestling tournament is slated for today and Thursday at Lewis County High School.

Weigh-ins begins at 3:30 p.m., followed by action at 5 p.m.
