Tucker girls breeze past Pocahontas

Griffith drains 9 treys to pace TV boys to win

HAMBLETON - Stephanie Betler and Amber Evans had 17 points each to lead Class A, No. 5 Tucker County past No. 6 Pocahontas County 68-51 Thursday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Savannah Ambrose followed with a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Lady Mountain Lions (14-4), who led 30-24 at halftime and 49-41 after three quarters of play.

Melissa Murphy, Bobbie McNabb and Heather Snead had 12 points each for the Lady Warriors (12-5).

"I thought we really played well tonight and came out focused," Tucker County coach Jim Ambrose said. "Madison Mullenax came up big off the bench tonight when we got into foul trouble in the first half, and I also thought Savannah had a good game on the defensive side of the ball."

Pocahontas County will visit East Hardy at 7:30 p.m. today for a PVC matchup, while Tucker County will venture to Petersburg.

Boys games

Tygarts Valley 68, Pocahontas County 51

DUNMORE - Brett Griffith connected on nine three pointers and finished with a team-high 29 to lead Class A, No. 9 Tygarts Valley past Pocahontas County 68-51 Thursday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Adam Cassell added 10 points, six assists and three steals for the Bulldogs (13-3), who led 50-21at halftime and 64-32 after three quarters of play. Timmy Sparks also had eight rebounds.

Nils Schmidt had 10 points for the Warriors (13-3), who will host Pendleton County at 5 p.m. Saturday for a PVC contest.

Tygarts Valley will play in the fifth-place game of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational at 6 p.m. Saturday in Summersville.

Harman 66, Paw Paw 49

PAW PAW - Alex Armentrout finished with a game-high 35 points to lead Harman past Paw Paw 66-49 Thursday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Casey Elza followed with 18 points, while Michael Judy chipped in with 10 points for the Panthers (4-12), who led 30-25 at halftime and 51-33 after three quarters of play.

Josh Newlon had 21 points to lead Paw Paw.

Harman will play Van at 3:30 p.m. today in the final round of the WVHIT in Summersville.

Trinity 74, Tucker 68

MORGANTOWN - Anthony Ghiardi finished with a game-high 28 points to lead Trinity past Class A No. 3 Tucker County 74-68 Thursday in non-conference action.

Cody Triplett added 20 points for the Warriors (9-8).

Tyler Snyder tallied 17 points, while Ian Nichols chipped in with 16 points for the Mountain Lions (13-2).

Tucker County will entertain Class A, No. 1 Charleston Catholic at 7:30 p.m. today.

Moorefield .......... 54

Pendleton County 47

FRANKLIN - Adam Snyder fired in a team-high 23 points to lead Moorefield past Pendleton County 54-47 Thursday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Garrett Keller followed with 12 points for the Yellow Jackets (8-8), who led 29-20 at halftime and 40-29 after three quarters of play.

Evan Arrington finished with 22 points for the Wildcats (5-9).

Pendleton County will visits Pocahontas County at 5 p.m. Saturday for a PVC matchup.

Moorefield will host Charleston Catholic at 1 p.m. on the same day.
