Truth in God’s word

February 9, 2013
By Michael Phillips Belington Church of Christ

Society is straying into the realm of "relativism," defined as "the doctrine that no ideas or beliefs are universally true but that all are, instead, relative" - that is, their validity depends on the circumstances in which they are applied. (The American Heritage Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, Third Edition, copyright 2005 by Houghton Mifflin Co.). Is that definition true? If relativism is true, then definitions in dictionaries serve no purpose, and the Bible offers no more than any other book.

The Bible does not offer relative truth, but instead it offers objective truth. Man has no ability to invent his own pathway of truth (Jeremiah 10:23). The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 2:15: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." As the Bible is studied, understood and applied to anyone's spiritual needs, heavenly approval is achieved. Will you join us in studying God's objective truth?
