Robert C. Byrd edges Elkins; TCHS wins

Kevin Steele had 15 points to lead Robert C. Byrd past Elkins 60-57 Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

Justin Noble followed with 13 points, while Nick Dyer added 12 points for the Eagles (12-6).

Logan Phillips finished with 19 points, and Colby Gainer added 15 points for the Tigers (11-6).

"I thought it was a good game," Elkins coach John Lawson. "Whenever RCB?went on a run, I thought we answered back on them. I thought defensively in the first half, we didn't play well. But in the second half, we did a good job defensively."

Elkins travels to Charleston today to play Lincoln County at noon at the Charleston Civic Center.

Tygarts Valley 44,

Pendleton County 43

MILL?CREEK -?Adam Cassell hit a free throw with seven seconds left to lead Tygarts Valley past Pendleton County 44-43 Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Cassell finished with 14 points and five steals, while Brandon Pritt and Brett Griffith had 13 points each for the Bulldogs.

Pritt also had five rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Evan Arrington had nine points to lead the Wildcats.

Pendleton County travels to Tug Valley at 7:30 p.m. Friday for a non-conference tilt.

Tygarts Valley visits Notre Dame on the same day at 7:30 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.

Tucker County 69, Southern 40

HAMBLETON - Nathaniel Goldstein had 16 points to lead Tucker County past Southern (Md.) 69-40?Tuesday in non-conference action.

Ian Nichols followed with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Mikhail Lewis added 10 points for Tucker County (15-2), who led 39-16 at halftime and 54-20 after three quarters.

Brian Wilderman had eight points for Southern (Md.).

"I thought we jumped out early and played well defensively," Tucker County coach Tom Gutshall said. "I?thought we had some players step up off the bench and played well."

Tucker County hosts Philip Barbour at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for a non-conference matchup.

East Hardy 74, Union 50

BAKER - Tyler Mongold had 31 points and three rebounds to lead East Hardy past Union 74-50?Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Korey Foltz followed with 14 points and four rebounds for the Cougars (10-8).

Travis Murphy had 13 points to lead the Tigers.

East Hardy travels to Pocahontas County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for a conference matchup.

Girls Basketball

Pendleton?County 53, Moorefield 39

MOOREFIELD - Kaylee Edwards had 17 points to lead Pendleton County past Moorefield 53-39 Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Hillary Ord followed with 15 points and six rebounds for the Lady Wildcats.

Taylor Zuber had 14 points for the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Moorefield hosts Northern (Md.) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a non-conference matchup.

Pendleton?County hosts Union at 7:30 p.m. for a conference matchup.

Middle School?Basketball

Elkins 39,

Tucker Valley 27

Garrett Smyton had 10 points to lead Elkins past Tucker Valley 39-27 Tuesday in Middle School boys junior varsity tournament action.

Zach Shreve had eight points for EMS.

Corrick Ambrose finished with eight points for Tucker Valley.

Elkins plays Buckhannon-Upshur at1:30 p.m. Saturday in the title game.
