Robert Kayes

Mr. Robert Dennis "Bobby" Kayes, 82, a former resident of Valley Bend and a patient in Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center for several years, passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 14, 2013, in the center.

He was born May 11, 1930, at Campbelltown, Pocahontas County, the youngest son of the late Frank B. Kayes and the late Clara Dunbrack Kayes.

The Kayes Family moved to the Tygart Valley Homestead at Valley Bend when Bobby was 5.

Bobby had never married.

Surviving are two sisters, Naomi Wamsley and husband, Clarence, of Beverly, and Josephine K. Vanscoy of Dailey along with several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death, besides his parents, were two brothers, James and Edward Kayes; two sisters, Catherine K. Woolard and Mary K. McClain; and two brothers-in-law, Robert W. "Bob" Wamsley and Glenn Vanscoy.

At the age of 2, Bobby was stricken with polio, leaving him handicapped. He attended Homestead Elementary School at Dailey. He assisted John Willoughby on the Dutch Oven Bread delivery truck for many years, and during the summer months he would assist Web Wamsley on his farm. He was a Methodist by faith and attended Valley Bend United Methodist Church during his youth. Robert was well-liked by the residents of Valley Bend and surrounding area. People of the area were always interested in his welfare and watchful of his well-being and protective of Bobby throughout the years.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon Monday, Feb. 18, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Mr. Kayes will then be moved to St. Brendan Cemetery, where graveside rites will be conducted. Deacon Raymond Godwin will officiate, and interment will follow.
