Pocahontas, Pendleton girls advance

DUNMORE - Olivia Workman fired in a career-high 23 points and collected five steals to lead Pocahontas County past East hardy 67-29 Thursday night in Class A, Region II, Section 2 play.

The Lady Warriors (16-5) advance to play either Pendleton County or Moorefield at 7 p.m. Saturday at Petersburg for the sectional title.

Melissa Murphy added 13 points and Heather Snead collected eight rebounds for Pocahontas County, which turned a 5-5 tie after the first quarter into a 32-9 advantage at halftime.

Marilyn Cassell had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Cougars, who end the season 6-16.

Pendleton 57, MHS 39

FRANKLIN - Hillardy Ord had 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead Pendleton County past Moorefield 57-39 Thursday in Class A, Region II, Section 2 tournament action.

The Lady Wildcats (12-7) will face Pocahontas County at 7 p.m. Saturday in Petersburg for the sectional title.

The teams split during the regular season, each winning at home.

Kaylee Edwards and Raven Turner had 11 points each for Pendleton County, while Nicole Hedrick had nine points and seven assists.

Shayna Vetter had 11 points and Meagan Crites eight for the Lady Yellow Jackets, who end the season 6-17.
