McKameys to appear in concert

February 22, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

If one word could describe the McKameys, it would be "sincere." Each and every member of this group is sincere about their singing and their love for the Lord. They are indeed sincere in needing to spread the word of God to others.

The McKameys will be appearing at 7 p.m. March 7 at Good Hope Tabernacle Church on Route 20, just south of Buckhannon.

This group was first organized as a trio of sisters, Dora, Peg and Carol McKamey, in 1954. With changes, the McKameys have been spreading the gospel in song and testimony for more than five decades. The group has had many changes over the years, but has remained strong and obedient to the Lord.

The McKameys wll bring their gospel sound to the Good Hope Tabernacle Church at 7 p.m. on March 8.

They have several No. 1 songs, such as "Right On Time," "Who Put the Tears," and the most loved of all, "God on the Mountain." When these songs are performed, there is a light that shines through on the stage and an energy that carries the McKarneys through the night.

In 1957, Ruben Bean joined the group, playing guitar. He and Peg married two years later. Peg's two sisters, Carol and Dora, retired from the group in 1971. The Beans have two daughters, Connie and Sheryl, who sing with the group now, but started out singing special duets when they traveled with their mom, dad and aunts as children.

The members of the current group include Ruben and Peg Bean, Sheryl Farris, Connie Fortner and guitarists Roger and Eli Fortner.

The McKameys hail from Clinton, Tenn., near Knoxville. They perform about 150 days a year all across North America, from Southern California to British Columbia and throughout the east coast.

There are a limited number of free tickets available for the March 7 show. Call Pastor Holly Hoover at 304-472-7165 to get a ticket. Tickets are required to attend.
